Subject: Vermooten Praise 'n' Prayer - 4 October 2005
October 4, 2005
Dear prayer partner
Praise the Lord with us that we had a wonderful time with our son Adriaan
while he visited us for 10 days, and that he arrived back at school safely
on Sunday evening. It is going better with our daughter Esté's emotions
after the murder of her friend.
Praise the Lord that Ipopu (age about 28), whom I am teaching from the
Bible, is sharing the lessons with 66 classmates during evening school
classes. Many are Mwanis, but they are even translating the lessons for
their Makua classmates. One of the people apparently vying to read the
lessons first, is the teacher! He is a Mwani from Quirimba island. Today I
read the story of John the Baptist baptising Jesus, and God speaking from
heaven - "This is my beloved Son ..." Ipopu listened intently to the
beginnings of the Gospel - his first opportunity to ever hear it. Pray that
he will share this with his classmates too, and that the Lord will work in
all their hearts to convict them of their sin and lead them to repentance.
Tonight as I was returning from one of the groups we are evangelising,
people said that they'd sighted the new moon - which means that the lunar
month of Ramadan starts tomorrow (Tuesday 5 October). Mus1ims see this
month as a feast, even though nothing is allowed to pass their lips during
daytime (not even water!) for the entire month. We will be fasting with
them again - praying for their salvation. Pray that the people hearing the
Bible lessons will start to understand that they cannot earn their salvation
through fasting. Please pray too that we will handle questions about this
with wisdom - "as wise as serpents, and as gentle as doves."
Last but definitely not least - we really need your prayers for Bets - she
has come down with malaria. I started treating her this afternoon. Malaria
is a horrible illness, very painful and it leaves one powerless to do
anything. It still remains the greatest single killer in Mozambique.
Please pray that she will heal soon.
Thank you for praying for us and the Mwani.
Many blessings,
Hendrik
Paquit
